Welcome to A Bluer Sea! This introduction is well overdue.
Where to start? I hate to say our life is complicated, but it’s not average or simple either. Not that anyone’s story is, right? I was born and raised here in San Diego, California. I became a mother fairly young, 2008 to be exact, and believe that I was made to do this nor would I want to experience life any other way. I sometimes struggle with the fact that I went from a senior in high school to Mom, but then I see all of the ways I’ve grown as a person in the last five years and am humbled at how blessed and lucky I truly am. As I get older though, I start finding my self and am reminded that I am Kelly before I am Mom. It’s pretty exciting.
Greysen, 6, is my magic and it’s fun to see how we’ve grown in the last five and a half years, together. Sebastian, 3, is my wild. He makes me laugh daily and I’m so thankful for him. I was a single mom from 2011 to mid-2012 when I met my Soulmate. People always say, “When you know, you know” and it’s true. I flew out to Florida and came back to San Diego five days later with a boyfriend named Anthony. We did the long distance thing for a few months, but ultimately decided that we were just too in love to be apart! He loved me, my boys, and we eloped in the summer of 2012. We are a blended family and Anthony is our anchor. He and the boys may not share the same dna, but their love is deeper than that. Our little moon, Ivy Scout, was born in 2013, and here we are now– complete. My family of five. All I’ve ever wanted, more than I knew I needed.
So, why A Bluer Sea? That’s the way we see life. Everyone’s sea is already blue, but with my family by my side I have the bluest of them all. Not that we don’t have a few storms every now and then– we just choose to deal with them differently by finding growth within each other and grateful for whatever the day may bring.
This space will be bits and pieces of our day-to-day, weekly adventures near and far, recipes (cooking is my daily one hour therapy session during our witching hour, wine glass in tow), styles, and occasionally we get crafty.
Our family pictures are by the amazing photographer, Jamie Street. We met her when she photographed, and witnessed, our elopement. More on that next week! We are so lucky to call her a friend and be able to have these memories forever. Something I will always cherish.
